Amazing time in Denali National Park

June 21st, 2010
I walked out of my room that morning to the freshest air, the crispest view of the scenery. I took a picture. I called to my husband, to have a look with me. We just stood there in awe noticing everything from the farthest tree to the dragonflies zooming by. We looked forward to our flightseeing tour in the national park, through the winding valleys of the Alaska Range, and the indescribable vision of Denali herself. It was a flight into the Denali Backcountry Lodge where we stayed for 3 days. We meet some amazing people from all over the world; we went on ATV adventures that were like a dream come true. We saw moose and fox; we saw so many more animals on the trip back on the bus ride.
It was a short adventure that I can’t recommend more. The staff was so friendly, answered our questions, I am sure that they had been asked hundreds of times. Now that we’ve been there we understand what “remote” really means. And the people of the Denali Backcountry Lodge brought some civilization to the wild country in a very unobtrusive way for us to experience.

Bus Ride to Kantishna deep inside Denali National Park

March 4th, 2010
Once we connected with the bus, we were set to begin our Kantishna excursion. We loaded up for the bus at the Denali Cabins, and then made a brief stop to pick up guests at the Railroad depot at the park entrance.
From that point we headed into the park. After the park ranger checked us thorough the park entrance the tour really began. Our bus driver started his narration by telling us some history about the park, for instance the park boundaries have changed twice, he also told us that when we saw animals we should call out so that the bus could stop and we could all do some wildlife viewing. This was a good idea, because we all wanted to see the animals and sometimes they are one side of the bus or another, and sometimes they are far away, and hard to see. We got the opportunity to see Moose, a double shovel Caribou, Sheep, Eagles, and what we were told was a rare sight: wolf pups.
We got to stop and get out and stretch our legs, and the driver even offered us snacks and drinks. I particularly appreciated the stops at the ranger stations so that I could get some better understanding of the natural history of the park. All in all it was a great drive and a wonderful experience.

Awesome experience at Denali Backcountry

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/16/07
We just got back from a delightful and interesting 3 days in the Denali National Park. We stayed at the Denali Backcountry Lodge and loved it. The hiking was awesome, with knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides. Everyone was very helpful and competent. The naturalists were also very good and we particularly enjoyed their presentations-ice age mammals, bears, etc. Everything about the experience was first class, except the food was average and adequate but not wonderful, considering the price. The cabins are very comfortable and roomy.

Denali Backcountry Lodge: A Stay in the Tundra

Here is picture of the surroundings around Denali Backcountry Lodge in the Kantishna area. As you can see, the area is not heavily forested. Kantishna is in the middle of the tundra, set in the middle of thousands of acres of low growing brush such as blueberry bushes and low bush cranberry bushes. After only a few hours a being here, you will come to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of the tundra.

Kantishna is a former gold mining district located in a valley that opens up to a vast flat tundra to the west. Mt. McKinley is to the south. There are no mountains north of this valley until you reach the Brooks Range which is hundreds of miles away.
